How An Antique Belgium Cufflink Sparked a Canadian Brand

Although cufflinks can be traced back to the 1600’s, one has to look no further than Alexandre Dumas’ famous french novel The Count of Monte-Cristo. It is said that the character, Baron Danglars, had a paragraph long written description of his dazzling diamond cufflinks that shone from his shirt’s button-hole sparking envy amongst onlookers. This much talked about section in the novel lead to tailors offering French aristocrats custom made cufflinks. Cufflinks became a symbol of a discerning gentleman.

Perhaps this European history and tradition is part of what lead Daniel Feuer to found Pranga & Co in Toronto. I spoke to Daniel about what inspired his line of cufflinks.

The idea of offering unique, interchangeable cufflinks started when he himself was gifted with a beautiful pair that came from a Belgium antiques flea market. The uniqueness of the cufflink’s composition made him realize that there was a gap in the market today to fill for the modern man who wants to create a unique personal style that could be immediately customized by having a variety of colours made from different materials to mix and match with.

Pranga & Co. offers interchangeable ankers made from hard wood, semi-precious stones, jade, lapis lazuli, granite or marble. The brand’s name comes from the Albanian language – meaning cuff or wrist. This brand is distinctively masculine and classic with a modern twist.
