As we approach that time year when we can finally put away our heavy winter clothes to make room for our spring/summer outfits, I have been on the lookout for must have pieces to start this new season off right.
I feel very fortunate to live around the corner from Queen Street West, Toronto. It is ranked 2nd by American Vogue as the hippest shopping district in the world and for good reason. There are so many wonderful local designer boutiques, cafes, and restaurants along 5.6 kilometres which makes for a fantastic shopping experience.
My first stop was Mendocino . Their spring clothes arrive into the store weekly with a variety of items currently in stock such as lovely slip-on mules in velvet or leather; floral dresses, jeans and kimono-styled robes.

I tried on this floral wrap-around dress that can be worn on its own or opened like a kimono over a white tee and a pair of jeans. At only $148.00, I couldn’t resist.
Next stop was the Deluxe Boutique. I had the pleasure of being served by Fashion Director and Owner, Kasha Milewski. This was my first visit to the store and I was drawn in by the vast selection of beautiful shirts, blouses, and dresses. Kasha consciously selects for her boutique “modern, fresh pieces that have an edge” to flatter a woman’s body. The brands are from L.A., Australia, England and Canada. I found her to be quite an expert at knowing the type of clothes that would best suit my body type. She gave me a number of items to try on. In the end I went with a blue and white striped classic linen shirt by Rails LA; pink mules by Kendall and Kylie, and a nicely cut pant from JNBY.
Unfortunately the current reality is the weather is far from spring-like so I made one last stop into Yorkville, another shopping district to stop by the Diesel store. I picked up an embellished navy blue sweat shirt that would work well with jeans or a skirt plus do the job of protecting me from the cooler temperatures.
And let’s not forget the sunnies. I can never have too many sunglasses.
