The white dress is definitely one of the hottest trends for this summer, in part, because of the versatility it gives you when adding accessories or attending day and evening functions. Whether it’s a garden party, or a night out for cocktails, or a beach holiday getaway, white is always a perfect option. Mixing white with cream or a pop colour are other great alternatives.
Wearing all white ensembles mostly occurs during the height of July/August temperatures. We tend to feel cooler under the glaring sun since white reflects more light versus darker colours absorbing light.
The American early 20th Century protocol (amoung the elite) of not wearing white after Labour Day historically refers to cooler temperatures require warmer and darker colours and fabrics. 21st Century fashion has no such protocol. One can continue the white trend into the fall/winter seasons with white knits, cashmeres, down-filled winter coats and jeans, if you so desire.
When it comes to fashion, I prefer to make my own rules. Today, modern style is more about what makes one feel comfortable and confident.
